Brief Biography:
I grew up in New Jersey and completed my undergraduate degree at Drew University in Madison, where I majored in chemistry and minored in math. As an undergraduate, I conducted research in biochemistry and X-ray crystallography. Immediately after completing college, I worked in industry, but I soon decided that I wanted to pursue a graduate degree in inorganic chemistry. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania. I chose to teach at Providence College, so that I could teach and mentor undergraduates in the classroom and research lab.
Area(s) of Expertise:
Inorganic chemistry
Teaching Philosophy:
In every course, I try to help students not only succeed in my course but also prepare them for whatever their future holds. I focus on guiding them through the concepts encountered in the course, while also fostering an environment in which they are actively participating in learning and not just attending class and completing assignments to earn a certain grade. I feel that it is my responsibility to train students to be educated citizens. This means that they should have strong verbal and written communication skills, but they should also have a sound enough grasp on general topics like chemistry, to think critically about information and situations that they encounter in everyday life.
