Summer Research: Biomedical Sciences

  • The Gerstner Sloan-Kettering Institute has a summer research program for students interested in the biochemical sciences.  Students receive a $4000 stipend and free housing in New York City. The program is 10-weeks in duration and begins in early June. Click here to apply on-line.

  • The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has a computational biology summer REU program through the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
  • The Medical College at the University of South Carolina has summer internships in physiology and neuroscience.
  • The Pediatric Oncology Education program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is funded by the National Institutes of Health / National Cancer Institute. The POE program offers a unique opportunity for students preparing for careers in the biomedical sciences, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychology, or public health to gain biomedical and oncology research experience. The POE program provides a short-term training experience (internship) in either laboratory research or clinical research. A primary goal of the program is to encourage students to pursue a career in cancer research, either as a laboratory-based scientist or a physician scientist. Applications open in September; deadline is 1 February.
  • The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is designed to provide research experiences for undergraduates considering graduate education in the biomedical sciences.
